I'm running NT 4.0 and am trying to make WinCron a service. The WinCron documentation says "Run WinCron with the -install switch" and that registers it as an NT System Service. Two things about this ...

1. When you look at SRVANY documentation it makes it look a lot more complicated than that(!)

2. How do you specify the install switch? I entered (from the WinCron directory) wincron -install, but that didn't affect the registry at all.

What am I missing? I'll be the first one to admit I'm new at this, and will admit to a dumb oversight. I'd just like some guidance.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Never mind. Turns out I was (stupidly, I suppose) using Tomasello documentation while actually running the **other** WinCron (in the UK). As I was going through it I was getting a bit frustrated because the scripts, etc. weren't being recognized. Also, the command line parms (install, etc.) were ignored. I thought I was doing something wrong and, indeed, I was.

As Mark once said in Doonesbury "I see. All the good names were taken." Sigh ...

Hi Frank,

I’ve responded to you in email, but I will answer here as well.

There are two WinCron products available on the market. The one available on this site (Tomasello Software) does not require SRVANY or any other funniness to make it run as a System Service on Windows NT.

As the documentation states, all you need to do is run WinCron –install. If this is not working, I would suggest verifying you are indeed running the product downloaded from this web site.

I think what has happened is that you are reading the help documentation from this web site (WinCron -install) yet running the WinCron from the other vendor.

Once you get the WinCron from this web site downloaded and installed, you should have no trouble registering it as a service.

I hope this helps,
Luke Tomasello
