Hi,
I have just downloaded the Wincron utility but have not registered it yet. I have Windows NT, Service Pack 6 ? (4.00.1381)

Wincron does everything we need running as an application. However, I want to set it up as a proxy service.

I do the wincron.exe -install and the service registers fine - the Wincron service is visible in the Control Panel - Services window.

However, when I try to start the service I get the error:

Could not start the Wincron Service on \\NTDGRENFEL
Error 0193: %1 is not a valid Windows NT application.

Is there some way to get around this ?

Thanks,

Craig.

Can you give me the exact commandline you used to register WinCron as a service (using xxx for the password.)

Hi Luke,

I did not specify account or password on the command line. That is, my command line was simply:

wincron.exe -install

This registered the service fine as stated above, but I could not start the service via the Control Panel - Services window. The documented command line syntax for wincron to be installed as a service had account/password as optional - i.e.

Wincron -install, [-account account_name
-password password]

I was able to change the 'log in as' for the wincron service to a particular user account via the Control Panel - Services window, but could still not start the wincron service.

Thanks,
Craig.

Hi Luke,

I have installed wincron on two other Windows NT machines to see if I could start the wincron service on these - I was able to in both cases !!!!

Therefore, there was something quirky about the first machine that stopped me being able to start the wincron service on it.

Cheers,

Craig.

Glad to hear it.
This is what I was coming here to ask you to try.
